Today, in the afternoon, the President of the european Commission and the college of the Commissioners will participate in the launch of the european year of Cultural heritage in Belgium, at the invitation of the Mayor of the city of Bruxelles.<\/p>\n
This unprecedented occasion will reflect the excellent relations between the european Union and the city of Bruxelles.<\/p>\n
The purpose of the european year of cultural heritage is to raise awareness of the social and economic importance of cultural heritage and to reach out to the widest possible audience, in particular young and children, local communities and people who are rarely in touch with culture, in order to promote a common sense of ownership.<\/p>\n
Thousands of initiatives and events across Europe will provide the possibility to involve citizens from all backgrounds.<\/p>\n
