{"id":1001,"date":"2017-06-23T11:26:23","date_gmt":"2017-06-23T09:26:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fondazionekian.com\/?p=1001"},"modified":"2017-06-23T11:26:23","modified_gmt":"2017-06-23T09:26:23","slug":"more-robust-anti-dumping-rules-to-defend-european-industries-and-jobs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fondazionekian.com\/?p=1001&lang=en","title":{"rendered":"More robust anti-dumping rules to defend european industries and jobs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The expiry in December 2016 of parts of China&#8217;s 2001 World Trade organisation accession protocol called into question whether WTO members can treat China as a non-market economy and calculate anti-dumping measures accordingly.<\/p>\n<p>The new rules would use the same anti-dumping methodology for all WTO members regardless of whether they have market economy status, but will target countries where &#8220;significant market distortion&#8221; exists, i.e. where prices are not market-based due to state interference.<\/p>\n<p>European jobs and businesses have been under immense pressure due to China&#8217;s excess production capacity and subsidised economy, especially in the steel sector.<\/p>\n<p>The european Union opposes unfair competition from China in a way that complies with WTO rules.<\/p>\n<p>The new rules for the calculation of import duties, among other things, propose:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the exporting country&#8217;s compliance with international labour, fiscal and environmental international standards,<\/li>\n<li>potential discriminatory measures against foreign investments<\/li>\n<li>effective company law<\/li>\n<li>property rights and tax bankruptcy regime<\/li>\n<li>a detailed report by the european Union, describing the specific situation in a certain country or sector for which the calculation of duties will be applied<\/li>\n<li>no additional burden of prood on european companies in anti-dumping cases.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote><p>European businesses deserve better protection from unfair trade practices, which endanger jobs and investments all over Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Free global trade is only to our benefit if everyone play by the rules.<\/p>\n<p>By creating clear and tough anti-dumping rules, we can protect citizens from the negative effects of globalisation<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The expiry in December 2016 of parts of China&#8217;s 2001 World Trade organisation accession protocol called into question whether WTO members can treat China as a non-market economy and calculate anti-dumping measures accordingly.
