26-27 May: The European Union at the G7 summit in Taormina

The 43rd edition of the G7 will take place from 26 to 27 May in the Sicilian city of Taormina (Italy), under Italian presidency.

The European Union, who is a full member of the G7 (and the G20), will be jointly represented by the President of the European Commission and the President of the European Council.

Under the motto “building the foundations of renewed trust”, the Italian presidency will focus mainly on citizen safety; economic, environmental and social sustainability and reduction of inequalities; and innovation, skills and labour in the age of the next production revolution.

The G7 summit is a forum that plays an important role in shaping global responses to global challenges, complementing the global economic coordination carried out by the G20.

Last year’s G7 summit was held in Ise-Shima (Japan) under Japanese presidency.

In accordance with the rotating presidency of the G7, next summits will be held in Canada (2018), France (2019), and the USA (2020).
