The european President announces a communication on the future of the Common Agricultural Policy

The european Commission will have to adopt before the end of 2017 a communication on the future of the common agricultural policy (CAP) post-2020.

The announcement was made by the european president on the occasion of the kick-off of the two-day annual conference on the prospects of the agricultural sector:

“Simplification and modernization will therefore be the keywords and the primary objective of the communication on the future of the common agricultural policy which the plans to adopt before the end of 2017,” explained the President.

Adding that “the first step will be a public consultation which will be launched at the beginning of next year and which will allow each of you to contribute to the debate on the direction that this strategic policy should take in the future.

In front of almost 400 representatives and actors in the agricultural markets, the commissioner of agriculture and rural development said he was convinced that the CAP “should guarantee certain basic rules to ensure greater market resilience, more sustainable agricultural production and better renewal of generations. ”

The european commissioners about energy security and the commissioner about environment and maritime affairs and fisheries are also among the many speakers on the first day of the conference, whose general theme is “Climate change and the availability of resources: challenges for the agriculture of the european Union”
